A rigorous analysis of the stability, accuracy and numerical behaviour of the finite integral method is presented in the context of the solution of initial value linear and non-linear dynamics problems. The formulation is reviewed and it is concluded that the method is unconditionally stable and exhibits very satisfactory accuracy characteristics. (Author/TRRL)
