Economic-emission dispatch problem using firefly algorithm

The generation of power from fossil fuel power stations emitted various harmful substances into the atmosphere. The basic economic power dispatch deals only with the minimization of fuel cost and does not take into account the emission minimization which should be considered. This paper proposes a firefly algorithm to solve economic-emission power dispatch problem. The proposed method is tested on IEEE 30-bus standard system considering three different cases. Some modifications are applied on the conventional firefly algorithm to improve its convergence characteristics. Comparison with the reported results are carried out. The simulations results and the comparison with the reported results confirm the efficiency of the proposed firefly algorithm to solve economic-emission power dispatch problem.
