Realization of Tangible Mobile Human Machine Interfaces Using Wireless Personal Area Networks

Using mobile computers like laptops or personal digital assistants (PDA) in a process industries environment places high demands on robustness and security of the equipment and requires the optimization of the complete system for the respective task. This paper firstly addresses these requirements. Subsequently a novel approach is introduced concerning the creation of highly specialized interaction schemes using wireless personal area networks. A conceptual model to formalize interactions within wireless networks and a reference implementation are presented. It is demonstrated that this approach helps to facilitate the development of highly specialized interaction schemes for field applications.
