In situ and recycled dinoflagellate cysts from Middle Miocene deposits at Bêczyn, Carpathian Foredeep, Poland

Middle Miocene clays exposed at Beczyn (Carpathian Foredeep) contain frequent organic- walled dinoflagellate cysts. The age-assessment of the dinocysts from the clays at Beczyn suggests their Early Badenian age (interregional dinocyst zone D17). However, dinocyst assemblage is in large part composed of recycled pre-Miocene specimens. Late Cretaceous and Palaeogene dinocysts are the most frequent among the forms treated as recycled. Occurrence of so frequent recycled dinocysts points at erosion of pre-Miocene substratum during the Early Badenian.
