A BiCMOS 1/spl times/ to 5/spl times/ combined analog frontend IC for DVD-ROM and movie players

An analog IC in 0.7 /spl mu/m BiCMOS is presented that includes all functions to read 1/spl times/ to 5/spl times/ DVD and 1/spl times/ to 32/spl times/ CD disks. It supports multi-media operation including DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD movie, CD, CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW. It supports also constant linear velocity (CLV) and constant angular velocity (CAV) operation of disk. The chip occupies 30 mm/sup 2/ and dissipates 900 mW at 5 V.
