Superior Caval Obstruction: Innominate Vein to Right Atrial Shunt with a Composite Autologous Vein Graft

When a fulminant case of superior vena caval obstruction is diagnosed and the distressing symptoms are prominent, a shunt operation with a composite vein graft from innominate vein to right atrium may completely alleviate the symptoms. This has been shown in the case of a 53-year-old man, whose superior vena caval obstruction was due to a bronchogenic carcinoma, with complete relief of the obstructive symptoms.
