The Logic of Qualitative Survey Research and its Position in the Field of Social Research Methods

Viele qualitative Studien beschreiben die Diversitat von Kognitionen oder von Handeln auf der Grundlage halbstrukturierter Interviews mit sehr kleinen Stichproben. Gleichwohl bleibt dieser Typus qualitativer Forschung in der methodologischen Literatur weitgehend undefiniert. In diesem Beitrag versuche ich zu zeigen, dass diese Studien als "qualitative Surveys" gefasst werden konnen. Wahrend sich quantitative Surveys mit der Haufigkeitsverteilung spezifischer Merkmale in Populationen befassen, interessieren sich qualitative Surveys fur die Diversitat solcher Merkmale. Diese konnen entweder bereits vorgegeben sein, oder Merkmale und ihre Variation werden z.B. in offenen Kodierprozessen generiert. Es werden drei Ebenen der Untersuchung definiert, namliche die eindimensionale Beschreibung, multidimensionale Beschreibungen und explanatorische Analysen, die entweder in Richtung einer Konzept-orientierten oder einer Einheiten-orientierten Weise betrieben werden konnen.
