A case of transfusion reaction associated with anti-IgA antibody.

A 70 year-old woman suffering from stomach cancer, developed transfusion reaction just after receiving about 50ml of packed red cell. In order to make clear the reason of this reaction, we tried to detect anti-erythrocyte,-leukocyte and -serum type antibodies systematically. Although we couldn't detect any antibodies against erythrocyte and leukocyte, we found that she had complete IgA deficiency and had low titer of anti-IgA antibody (1:128) in her serum. After transf ution, anti-IgA antibody was disappeared temporarily. But about 3 weeks after, the titer of anti-IgA antibody jumped up to be 1:512.
