11 – Visual Queries

Publisher Summary This chapter extends the advanced theory of symbolic projection and deals with various issues in active image information systems design. The chapter emphasizes on the system aspects and on how active database concepts can be incorporated into image information systems. It also explores the design of multiparadigmatic visual interfaces to image databases. In a visual interface for image databases, the information stored in the image database needs to be visualized in an information space. The chapter describes different representations ofthe information space. It differentiates between the two types of information space, i. e., logical information space and the physical information space.
