Thermal Resistance Values of Some Protective Clothing Ensembles

Abstract : This report describes methods used to predict the thermal insulation values of thin clothing ensembles and compares the results to those obtained from thermal manikin measurements. In calm conditions, the results compare favourably. In windy conditions, the predicted thermal resistance is greater than the measured value. This is because the theory used does not include wind induced ventilation of the clothing and the accompanying increase in heat transfer.
