COMPARACIÓN Y ESTUDIO DE LA FRACTURA DEL CIGÜEÑAL DE UN MOTOR DE CUATRO CILINDROS EN LINEA

In this paper the cause of the failure of an engine crankshaft was analyzed. Hardness test, metallographic and chemical analysis of the material was made. A very low core hardness of the crankshaft was found, due to an inadequate heat treatment. The drop resistance of the crankshaft diminished its fatigue resistance, allowing the propagation of the fracture in form of beach marks due to the fluctuating stress on a concentration site.
