NMC vs. RNMC : An experimental study of the two main compensation networks

This paper shows a study of the Nested Miller Compensation (NMC) and the Reversed Nested Miller Compensation (RNMC) schemes and their optimization for a higher operational amplifier factor of merit. Through the computation of the transfer function, a systematic method using a computer algebra system (CAS) is presented. An extraction and analysis of the significant terms is done in order to design a stable system. Then, a circuit made of elementary structures is designed to emphasize the effectiveness of the compensation networks. Also, experimental results prove that the NMC and RNMC models are reliable for an accurate study. For a given load capacitance the RNMC improves power efficiency as its bandwidth is close to the maximum theoretical value.
