Optimal plastic design of a bar under combined torsion, bending and shear

Abstract.Optimal plastic design of a bar or beam under torsion with superposed bending and shear is obtained via the boundary perturbation method. Effects of bending and shear are expressed by a small parameter α. The results of optimization of solid bars and of hollow bars are shown.
