Leakage field analysis of levitation electromagnet and driving motor for medium and low speed Maglev trains

EMS (Electromagnetic Suspension) type Maglev vehicles like HSST (High Speed Surface Transport) that use linear induction motors for its thrust system have been in the stage of practical application. With medium and low speed, they are ideal mode for urban mass transit. But many inhabitants living near the Maglev line are concerned about the environment impact. In this paper, the leakage magnetic field around the levitation electromagnet and linear induction motor at different operational conditions are calculated using the 2-D finite element method (FEM). The analysis and measured results show the maximum leakage flux density produced by the levitation electromagnets and linear induction motors are under the international safety guidelines.
