Performance of custom power devices in SCIG based Wind farms during abnormal grid conditions

The concept of improving fault ride through capability of induction generator based wind farms is securing great importance due to the rising dependency of power system in wind energy conversion systems. This work explores the application of Distribution STATic COMpensator (D-STATCOM) and Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) for the compensation of reactive power during grid disturbances. In this paper, Squirrel Cage Induction Generator (SCIG) based directly connected wind farm is considered. Performance of wind farm in the presence of shunt connected D-STATCOM and series connected DVR is analyzed separately in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
