Personal Semantic Search in a Mobile Environment Using Adaptive User Profiling

This paper presents a system that facilitates semantic search using mobile phones and filtering through personalized preferences. This system supports the search of mobile and web contents, the sharing of user preferences and search results in both desktop and wireless devices. By considering limited computing capability, the mobile phone maintains only the user interface. To support semantic search using mobile phone, the system generates hierarchical ontology for news domain categories, and establishes the relationship between these categories. Moreover, for the filtering of search results using user preference, the user profile is maintained in XML-formatted vector model. To overcome some disadvantages and to maximize advantages of mobile phones, our system stores the search results to the server, and shares search results between the desktop and wireless devices. In this paper we mainly describe the system architecture and main functions of each system component.
