Optimum weight analysis of steel grids with semirigid connections

Abstract The purpose of this research work was not to explore solutions of optimization techniques as much as it was necessary to utilize these techniques to produce an optimum weight of grid systems with semirigid end connections. Optimization techniques have certainly been well established for some time now. The most suitable of them are used here. Grids are, generally speaking, considered as either fully rigid, or totally flexible, at their end connections with perimeter columns. This concept will of course be violated when it comes to real practical situations as some flexibility or otherwise some rigidity must exist at the end connections, and this is the main topic of our research work.
