Smart portable system for protein concentration detection

Since proteins can be the biomarkers of the human disease, a rapid, convenient detection device for protein detection is worthy of research and development. In this paper, a low power and portable system for protein concentration detection system with a biosensor based on alternating current impedance measurement technique is presented. The biosensor is implemented by printed metal electrodes form to enhance the linearity of the system and a calibration circuitry is applied to ensure the high resolution of the identification and calibrate the biosensor when replaced for measuring. The proposed system can provide a rapid and high sensitive detection in 10 seconds. The measurement result demonstrated a high sensitivity of the implemented system which could be capable of detecting bull serum albumin (BSA) and thrombin as low as 4.03 μg/ml and 8.06 ng/ml, respectively. The whole power consumption of the implemented system is 22.3 mW with a supply voltage of 3 V and consumes a current of 10 μA when working in idle mode.
