Three-phase Current-Source Buck Type PFC Converter with Reverse-Blocking IGBTs

A three-phase current-source buck type converter with reverse-blocking IGBTs (RB-IGBTs) is investigated. The converter can achieve unity power factor and low input current THD. A 9-kW prototype with RB-IGBT is implemented for experimental verification. The RB-IGBT static and dynamic characteristics are tested. The RB-IGBT losses in the converter are experimentally measured. The results show that RB-IGBT has comparatively low conduction voltage drop and high reverse blocking capability. These RB-IGBTs' merits actually do well for the performance improvement of the three-phase current-source AC/DC converter.
