Segmentation of single-walled carbon nanotubes by camera flash

Previous workers discovered the ignition of fluffy single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) by camera flash. In this work, it is found that the flash does not ignite the thin SWNT film hung between electrodes, instead, nanotubes are segmented. SWNT segmentation is verified by scanning electron microscopy and in-situ resistance measurements, and an associated mechanism is discussed.
