Enabling Smart Grid Concept in Wind Farms by Means of Power Line Communication Technology

This paper proposes a Wind Power Generation System (WPGS) that operates in a Smart Grid (SG) environment by means of Power Line Communication (PLC) technology. The WPGS uses a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) controlled by Direct Torque Control (DTC) technique and whose power references are transmitted remotely via power cables with G3-PLC technology. The complete system (DFIG, controller and PLC) was implemented in an experimental test bench and validated with the satisfactory results of the practical tests.
