Digital pen and paper – introducing a new technology for prehospital data recording in German Helicopter Emergency Medical Service

In the field of prehospital emergency medicine, precise mission data recording is an important issue. The ‘digital pen and paper’ (DPP) technology combines the advantages of a primarily paper-based documentation with that of a primarily computer-based documentation without taking over the specific disadvantages of both documentation concepts [1]. It consists of three main components: the ‘digital paper’, the ‘digital pen’ and a software package.
