Overview of 5G UE OTA performance test challenges and methods

This paper analyzes the challenges for 5G OTA performance test and contrasts the advantages and limitations of the methods being considered in 3GPP for mmWave UE demodulation test. It first introduces the concepts and setups of MPAC and RTS test methods, which are widely studied for 4G UE MIMO OTA test, then analyzes potential issues when extending these methods to 5G demodulation tests and proposes possible solutions to the open issues. Currently, different test methods, including IF testing, SS-MPAC method with direct spatial channel emulation and applying RTS method with baseband emulation of Multi-AoA, are all under discussion in 3GPP for mmWave UE demodulation testing. This paper contrasts the limitations and advantages of different methods.
