Turbo Equalization of the Nonlinear Satellite Channel

A typical satellite communications channel can be modelled by the concatenation of the transmit filter, nonlinear amplifier and the receive filter. This nonlinear channel can be viewed as an ISI channel with memory, whose length is determined by the impulse responses of the filters. This paper presents a 16QAM turbo equalization scheme which can mitigate this nonlinear ISI. A soft interference canceller, IC, is followed by an SCCC turbo decoder. A posteriori probabilities are passed from the SCCC decoder to the IC for each iteration. The IC has linear complexity with channel memory length.
