Investigation of an analytical model for parallel flow induced rod vibrations

Abstract An analytical model describing the vibrations of a rod structure under axis-parallel fluid flow as well as the response to the driving pressure fluctuation field over the rod length was experimentally investigated. In particular the influences of a simplifying hypothesis in the analytical model were considered. The tests, performed with a single rod test facility in water flow have given satisfactory results not only under ideal flow conditions but also when the flow structure was disturbed by pump vibrations or other loop influences. Measurements of the pressure difference fluctuations on the rod surface have given some characterizing data for the pressure field in the investigated flow geometry.
