Solid-armature railguns without the velocity-skin effect

The performance limits for railguns which are free of the velocity-skin effect are investigated by deriving the upper limits for a specific kind of power supply. Previous performance estimates made for solid-armature railguns are examined in the light of these results and are found to be relatively very optimistic. A novel railgun design has been invented called the muzzle-fed railgun which could allow control of the velocity-skin effect and thereby greatly improve performance of solid armature railguns. >
