Recurrent third degree acromioclavicular joint separation after failure of a Dacron ligament prosthesis

In those instances where operative repair of a complete acromioclavicular joint separation is indicated, reconstruction using a Dacron ligament prosthesis has been described.’ The main advantages of using this implant are two-fold. First, it provides an immediate, strong replacement for the ruptured coracoclavicular ligaments. Second, the H-beam double velour Dacron material supposedly allows tissue ingrowth. This is felt to enhance incorporation of the graft by fibrous tissue. If ingrowth occurs, the incorporated ligament prosthesis should be stable enough to prevent the sawing action on the clavicle attributed to wire and other materials.
