Hot-tap method developed for heating, cooling pipe

High recovery rate of steel shavings was a major consideration in the development of a hot-tap method for connecting lateral lines with larger main lines for district heating and cooling pipe. In developing this method, three preconditions were set: Pipe should be drilled dry, because consumers use the steam directly. Steel shavings should be removed to prevent fouling the downstream valves. Cutting chips should be removed for the same reason. This paper discusses the design and development of such a method.
