Ferromagnetic Anisotropy Induced by Cold Rolling of Cu-Co Single Crystals Containing Cobalt Fine Particles

A magnetic anisotropy induced by cold rolling was measured for single crystals of Cu-2 wt % Co alloys by means of a torque magnetometer at 77°K and 300°K. The crystallographic plane and direction of rolling were {100} and {110} . The magnitude of the induced anisotropy and its temperature dependence were satisfactorily explained in terms of the superposition of the shape anisotropy of cobalt-rich precipitates and the crystal anisotropy of h.c.p. cobalt precipitates. Calculations were made on the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy by using a model of shape changes and the crystalline transformation of cobalt precipitates by slip deformation. A slip mode was considered to explain the shape of precipiates caused by deformation
