Storage management software for mainframe and UNIX : Storage devices & systems

The amount of data of magnetic disks and magnetic tapes, connected to M series computer, goes on increasing because of processing performance improvement and bitcost reduction. Therefore, there are strong demands of customers to use these online storage, magnetic disks and magnetic tape libraries, more efficiently. This paper refers to GSM (Global Storage Mamagement). GSM is the storage management software for M series computers and PCs/WSs (personal computers/workstations) connected to M series computers. Under M series computers, GSM realizes automatic guarantee of magnetic disk space and high performance backup of database. GSM uses optical disk libraries and magnetic tape libraries as the secondary storage of magnetic disks and automatic backup device. And GSM also expands storage management area toward the UNIX workstation.
