A New Algorithm for Retrieving Sea Surface Current Direction from Sar Doppler Information

Ocean surface current direction retrieving remains a challenging work. In this paper we propose a new algorithm to achieve the surface layer current direction through SAR Doppler information. The algorithm is designed to iteratively approximate the radial Doppler velocity field by using the current direction information extracted from historical data, and thus achieve the direction angle from the modified historical current direction data. Results showed that it could effectively produce accurate direction angle field which is closely related to the radial velocity field.
