Stabilization of linear systems with bounded controls

Abstract Linear systems with saturated controls can be smoothly stabilized as long as certain natural controllability and eigenvalue conditions hold, as shown in a previous paper by the authors. Generalizing an idea of Teel, we show here how to obtain these stabilizers using very simple combinations of saturation nonlinearities—in neural network terms, sigmoidal feedforward nets.
