CONCEPT FOR REGIONAL TRAFFIC AND TRAVEL INFORMATION CENTER WITH INTERREGIONAL INFORMATION EXCHANGE

This paper describes a novel concept to connect different information sources within a regional traffic and travel information center (TTIC) considering all competing modes of transport and to disseminate the processed information within private services and governmental sovereign tasks. These regional TTICs may be connected in an interregional Europe-wide traffic information network (INFOTEN). The layout of traffic and travel information services are mainly user oriented and should be fast, intermodal, reliable, and interregional. The TTICs collect information from urban areas, highway, environment, police, railway, and private information services. This information is processed and complemented by the TTIC and can then be disseminated. There are levels of information coverage: local/urban information, regional information, and interregional and international information. At each level of information coverage, a dedicated information center will handle the following issues: communicating information, connecting and completing information, and disseminating information for commercial service providers and governmental tasks. Foundation of public-private partnerships is prerequistite to overcoming organizational problems. Great efforts are necessary to establish a cooperation between all means of transport within each level of coverage.
