Towards research-oriented teaching/learning for international students in telecommunications engineering

With the development of economy, science and technology of China, the number of the international students studying science and technology in China has been increasing significantly over the past decade. In our teaching practice, we have introduced a research-oriented teaching/learning curriculum in the undergraduate program for the international students majoring in telecommunications engineering, and achieved some initial positive outcomes. In this paper, we report our practice and examine the important issues in research-oriented teaching/learning: i) select research projects carefully with appropriate scope and difficulty for motivating students; ii) enhance the agile guidance utilizing information systems, such as Redmine, SVN and Wiki. Our practice and discussions may provide insights into promoting research-oriented teaching/learning and improving the quality of English-instructed higher education program for international students in science and engineering.
