A molecular bilayer motif constructed from a three-connected organic ligand and Cd2+ cations: Crystal structure of [Cd3(trimesate)2.(H2O)9].2H2O

The molecular bilayer motif reported here is formed by trimesic acid and Cd2+. The ligand acts as a three-connected node while the metal is a simple spacer. The assembly of these motifs into a three-dimensional structure forms cavities into which coordinated and lattice water molecules are located.
