Structural Analysis of Tornado-Like Vortices

Abstract Numerical solutions by high-speed computer have been obtained for tornado-like vortices. No special procedures were introduced to force the occurrence of single-cell or double-cell structure, and numerous examples of each were obtained within the range of parametric variations investigated. The flow field is related to the magnitudes of Reynolds number, configuration ratio, and incoming flow angle. The results are compared with recent laboratory experiments and the significance relative to atmospheric vortices is discussed.
