The main drive system of universal rail section mill of Rail Section Plant of Pangang Group Panzhihua Steel Vanadium Co.,Ltd.adopts the cycloconverters,which generate a great deal of harmonics leading to a low power factor.To resolve the power quality problem,SVC device was applied to the power system soon after the mill was put into production.Based on analysis of load and harmonics of the cycloconverters for synchro motors of the universal rail section mill,as well as the harmonics generated by TCR,parameter tuning and the consequent compensation effect of the SVC device are investigated.With the SVC device,power quality of the network is evidently improved,and meets the national standards in terms of the power factor and the harmonics content.
