Spring-type magnetostriction actuator based on the wiedemam effect

Abstract A spring-type magnetostriction actuator (STMA), based on the Wiedemann effect (WE), is one of the most promising types of macroactuators, by means of which it is possible to achieve precision displacement levels of 50–100μm with an accuracy of positioning up to 0.1 μm in a real time scale (up to 1 – 10 ms). In this paper the main STMA characteristics and method of its linearization are discussed. Two types of optomechanic devices, using STMA, are considered. They are an electromechanical scanner and a step-by-step line motor.
