Concentration Degree Analysis of Stroke-Based Urban Road Network Topology

Existing road network evaluation methods have shortcomings in delineating the topology of the network. This paper uses a dual approach to analyze the topology of the road network. To use the approach, a stroke is introduced as the basis of the network and its abstracting principles are presented. Based on the principle of direction continuity, a program is designed to automatically decompose the road network into linear strokes. Then concentration degree is proposed as an indicator to quantify the centralization of a road network. Its calculation method is presented. Finally, an application demonstrates the use of the indicator. The results suggest its practical benefits to quantitatively evaluate a road network.
