Slipline field solutions for compression and rolling with slipping friction

Abstract New slipline solutions are described for compression and rolling with slipping friction. The fields are of a very complex kind and no computations have been attempted. Instead attention is concentrated on the qualitative features of the associated deformation modes. Particular features of interest are the presence, in both problems, of rigid zones, bordering on the tool face, but which do not extend to the central line of symmetry, and the oscillatory nature of the strain rate and pressure distributions in the rolling solutions.
