An Experimental Consideration on Spatial Correlation and Minimum Eigenvalue for MIMO System using Polarization

Improvement of reliability of wireless communication by using orthogonal polarization in the MIMO systems is demonstrated with channel measurement. Additionally a mechanism of the improvement is discussed from eigenbeam patterns. We have validated that spatial correlation, minimum eigenvalue, and channel capacity are improved by using cross polarization in MIMO branches even if the propagation environment varies. The improvements are achieved because two orthogonal electrical channels are formed in one physical path, and powers of the path whose polarization is varied in propagation channel is picked up by the orthogonal antennas.
