Passenger airbag(PAB)s are known to induce unexpected results on small children in out-of-position(OOP) postures. The effects of PAB design parameters on OOP children are investigated. Simulations have been performed for 3 and 6 years OOP children and adult dummies according to the FMVSS208 using MADYMO software. Among the parameters, airbag folding pattern and the flap width are found to have dominant effects on the injuries of OOP children as well as of adults.
