A study of the key two words of Egyptian bookkeeping that relate to the conception of "dues". The study concentrates upon the supposed differentiation between bikw and inw with an emphasis placed upon the internal ramifications of both. Various recent scholarly hypotheses are covered, specially that of M. Liverani. An attempt is made to link the New Kigndom (especially Dynasty 18) use of inw with its earlier bureaucratic use within the Nile Valley.
