Calculation of the Power Deposited in Tissues Close to a Handset Antenna Using a Non-Uniform FDTD

Recent years have seen an explosive growth in the area of wireless. By the year 2010, the number of subscribers is expected to exceed 200 millions over the world. Part of the power emitted by handsets is absorbed by the head and its reduction has become a challenge. On the one hand it enables to increase the energy used for the communication, and on the other hand, it ensures, from the health point of view, the use of handsets. Standards have been established (e.g., ANSI/IEEE, CENELEC.…) concerning the maximum absorbed power by the tissues, which must be below certain limits.
