Fotran IVnA P.I. Approach Including Structural Programming

Our chapter on structured programming (SP) is a first for a programmed instruction textbook. We've learned of some 20 versions of FORTRAN which now have a SP capability. However, if the FORTRAN compiler available at your computer facility does not include FORTRAN extensions, such as IF THEN ELSE, it is still possible to utilize structured programming concepts. We've identified in Chapter 13 approaches for using structured programming concepts with a compiler limited to ANSI FORTRAN. Students will be ready for SP after they have completed Chapter 8. Emphasis on Solution Logic The approach in this edition requires students to concentrate on solution logic for several sessions before they learn enough FORTRAN to begin coding. Nevertheless, they will get on the computer early in the course, gaining motivation for further study.
