Key IPC Codes Extraction Using Classification and Regression Tree Structure

Patent are results of researched and developed technologies. So we can get novel information for technology management by patent analysis. In the patent analysis, we use diverse items such as abstract and citation for discovering meaningful information. International patent classification (IPC) code is one of items for patent analysis. But, all IPC codes are needed to analyze patent data. In this paper, we propose a method for extracting key IPC codes representing entire patents. We use classification tree structure to construct our model. To verify the improved performance of proposed model, we illustrate a case study using retrieved patent data from patent databases in the world.
