Diallel analysis for total soluble solids content, pericarp thickness and locule number in tomato

The present investigation was carried out to study on the genetics of such traits that are important for processing and hulk handling of tomatoes viz. TSS%. pericarp thickness and number of locules. The experimental material consisted of twelve parent and their 66 F1 hybrids produced in a diallel cross mating. Analysis of variance for combining ability exhibited the significance of both GCA and SCA effects for all the characters studied. Components of variation analysis confirmed the findings of combining ability analysis. Based upon the present investigation, it is concluded that improvement for processing attributes in tomato can be accomplished both through pure line breeding as well as through heterosis breeding. The parents and the crosses to be persued through respective breeding methods have been identified.
