MODELLING OF AUTOMOBILE FUEL CONSUMPTION IN SINGAPORE

Using multiple-trip travel data derived from a survey involving 115 cars, this paper describes the fuel consumption characteristics of passenger cars in the urban traffic of Singapore. Statistical analyses were employed to establish fuel consumption models and to test the effects of different parameters. The effects of average travelling speeds, vehicle weight, engine capacity, type of transmission and steering, and age of vehicle were found to be statistically significant. The results show that the approach adopted in this study is effective in identifying the effects of various factors on fuel consumption.
