Biliary-duodenal dynamics in man. Cineradiographic and manometric studies following administration of drugs and hormones.

Cineradiographic, 70-mm, and intraluminal manometric studies of the common duct and duodenum were undertaken on 53 patients with T -tubes and 31 with intact gallbladders. These studies were made during a baseline period and again following administration of hormones, anticholinergics, spasmolytics, analgesics or their combination. Common duct flow generally correlated inversely with duodenal motor activity. Although the action and effect of various drugs are described, questions remain on response of the atropinized hypotonic duodenum to morphine, which apparently affects different receptors or muscles. The method described could be used to evaluate various drugs acting on the choledochoduodenal segment.
