Real-time Determination of PMSM Assembly Temperatures

This paper proposes a temperature observer for the stator winding and rotor permanent magnets of surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSMs). The observer is based on the algorithm of model reference adaptive system (MRAS). The MRAS algorithm based on Popov stability criterion is used to monitor the stator winding resistance and permanent magnet flux linkage of the motor. The observer monitors assembly temperatures based on the fact that the permanent magnet flux linkage and stator winding resistance are temperature-dependent parameters. Simulation results show good performance in temperature tracking.
